Environmental Policy Statement

The Caja Madrid Financial Group is aware of its environmental responsibility and of the impact its activities may have on the natural environment. It has therefore committed itself to the continuous improvement of its environmental performance and the prevention of pollution by implementing and maintaining an Environmental Management System framed by the guidelines established in this Environmental Policy Statement.

The adoption of this Policy guarantees compliance with current legislation at European, national, regional and local level, and with all other requirements applying to the Group by virtue of its corporate strategies or the conventions, protocols and agreements to which it subscribes.

This commitment also envisages delivery beyond legal compliance through the use of best available techniques, allocating the necessary resources whenever possible.

In this way, the Caja Madrid Group will operationalise its anti pollution commitment through an internal system designed to minimise the impacts of its installations and activities, and by ensuring that environmental criteria are integrated into all its projects.

The Caja Madrid Group will also engage proactively with its stakeholders and its main suppliers and contractors in order to promote their adoption of responsible environmental practices.

This proactive stance extends to collaborating in the development of environmental conservation and improvement schemes, and supporting the environmental initiatives of government authorities and/or large or small businesses through grants, sponsorship, research, publications, workshops and other forms of assistance.

In implementing these guidelines and advancing its engagement with continuous improvement, the Caja Madrid Group will place special emphasis on staff training and awareness on environmental issues, and will use the most effective and efficient resources to this end.

This Environmental Policy Statement is being published and communicated throughout the Group, and is available for consultation by the public in general and stakeholders in particular.

Approved by the Resources Committee, Minutes No. 240, 20 September 2005
